The five-day holiday marks the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and light over darkness, which is symbolized by the burning oil lamp diyas.

Neeta Bhasin, the Diwali festival organizer, said: “Diwali brings a new start, new endeavors, and opportunities to restore contact with family and friends for Hindus.” Many Jainas, Sikhs, and Buddhists also observe Diwali according to their own traditions. Diwali falls on Nov 14th this year.
