Mandangin Island, my village, my birthplace, spilled my blood and sweat. Stores stunning natural charm. The eight corners that surround it are a stretch of sea. The sand like a carpet of silk swirled widely around it. Lush green leaves towering hugging the trees on the stretch of his body. In this land two bodies of great lovers were buried, Bangsacara and Ragapadmi. Nothing wrong with discourse, my village deserves to be one of the preferred tourist destinations in Sampang Regency. However, in recent years, the situation is getting worse. The beach is shrinking again dirty. Dirty sea. Garbage everywhere. And what becomes a serious problem is the goats belonging to the residents 'littering' in the streets. My village, my island, are like little babies who are malnourished.

My village, Mandangin Island, is the only island in Sampang Regency. From a geographical point of view, this island is located in Sampang District, Sampang Regency, East Java Province with an area of ​​± 94.04 hectares. The boundaries of Mandangin Island Village to the west, east, north and south are surrounded by the Madura Strait. Mileage from the district. Sampang ± 20 km by road, river and sea. It takes ± 1.5 hours by motor boat from Tanglok port. There are only three hamlets on Mandangin Island, namely West Hamlet, Dusun Kramat (middle), and Dusun Candin. The people of Mandangin Island are like a small isolated community. The townspeople called it, "oréng polo" (island people).

Many questions crossed my mind. Because, since childhood I was like being stuffed with mystical stories, like this island was separated from the rest of the land because I got a kick from the giant Semar. Including the legend of the crow that developed from mouth to mouth when I was little when playing with friends. Questions about the origin of the Mandangin 'milling about in the cranium of my head. Until in the end, after I graduated from diploma two I looked for it from one source to another, even though it didn't produce perfect results.

It is indeed complicated to collect data to reveal the history of the origin of the people of Mandangin Island. Apart from the absence of historians who wrote it in gold ink. However, due to the lack of care from the people of Mandangin Island themselves. Various hypotheses try to explore it, although sometimes they come from scientific engineering whose truth is far from perfect. I have tried to codify the scattered data with various samples extracted from several community leaders in Mandangin Island, who they have thought of and extracted, even though they recorded it only in their mind's drawer, not in the form of sheets.

However, some of the literature that I found was milling about, especially on the internet, that the people of Mandangin Island came from royal exiles who suffered from acute skin diseases (leprosy). These writings are not completely wrong, nor do they rule out the truth of the facts. Because, looking from the people's opinion that this skin disease is a curse that must be avoided, even the sufferer needs to be isolated. Related to that, ever since I sat on the MTS bench, it was as if I was hung with questions about this island. Where did the people of Mandangin Island come from? Who are the true ancestors of the people of Mandangin Island? And, where did the name Mandangin Island come from? The answers to these questions until now I have not found the answer with certainty. Several times when I hang out with friends and even the elders of this island, I often ask these questions, but their answers vary.
First, they said that the ancestors of the Mandangin Island community came from tirakat (ascetic) people.

It is said that in the past, Mandangin Island was a very strategic place to meditate, so people who like to meditate (masters of tirakat) from various regions of Madura Island and Java have come to this island. Those on Mandangin Island exiled themselves from the hustle and bustle of the life of hedonism. Some of them brought their relatives, wives, and children. Some of them grouped together and settled on Mandangin Island, thus forming the Mandangin Island community to this day.

The second version states, the Mandangin Island Society came from prisoners who were banished (exiled) by the kingdom in the land of Madura and Java. The kings of old, when they found their people committed acts that violated the rules of the kingdom when the mistakes were very fatal, these kings did not hesitate to throw them out on small, uninhabited islands, one of which was on Mandangin Island. Such exile in some countries is still practiced today. So, from there the people of Mandangin Island were automatically formed.

Third, the people of Mandangin Island come from traders and sailors. They are traders that rest their boat on Mandangin Island for some time. These merchants passed from Java, Sumatra, and so on to Sumenep and to other eastern areas. Sometimes it's just for resting, repairing the boat, and looking for some travel provisions; collect fruits and drinks. Some of them stayed for several months on Mandangin Island. As time passed, they automatically formed the Mandangin Island community. This version seems to have a point, because in my childhood days a lot of ships from afar leaned on this island and mingled with the local people.

Fourth, the people of Mandangin Island come from nomads or hunters of wild animals. This assumption is true, seeing from Mandangin Island which is uninhabited and wild forest, it is not impossible if Mandangin Island becomes a place for wandering and hunting wild animals by the Madurese themselves and those who come from Java.

Fifth, the people of Mandangin Island come from sailors from Java. This can be proven by the fact that some of the languages ​​of the people of Mandangin Island are absorbed from Javanese. For example, the word kiwo (left). The word kiwo is often used by the people of Mandangin Island, when turning (to the left) their boat while they are at sea. Including the word lie (cassava), the people of Mandangin Island prefer to call it a lie (as a loan from the Javanese language) for cassava compared to the word tenggâng (cassava: Madura-Sampang), and the word sabbhrâng (cassava: Madura-Pamekasan), and so on.

The last version states, the Mandangin Island Society came from people who had fled from Dutch custody. This can be proven from a custom (tradition) of the people of Mandangin Island, when they lowered their boat to the lips of the sea they worked together and said in unison, "Jo tara tajo le ale ..." I actually don't really understand what word it comes from and what the translation is, it's just that of course according to this version, the sentence comes from Dutch.
