The Buffalo Bills play the Indianapolis Colts in the first of six NFL wild-card playoff games this weekend.

The Bills (13-3) are hosting it's first playoff game since Dec. 28, 1996 when Buffalo, led by Jim Kelly, lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-27. Saturday's game against the Colts (11-5) is also the first game all season that Buffalo will allow fans into Bills Stadium -- about 6,700 fans are expected to attend.

The Bills enter the the playoffs red hot behind MVP-candidate and quarterback Josh Allen. Their only loss in their last 10 games came against the Arizona Cardinals, who won on Kyler Murray's "Hail Murray" play to end the game.

The Colts are led by eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers, who could be playing in his last NFL gamer.

It's the first playoff meeting between the former AFC East rivals, with the Colts holding a 4-3 edge since the NFL realigned its divisions in 2002. It also marks the return of former Bills quarterback and current Colts head coach Frank Reich to the place of his greatest achievement as a player when he orchestrated the greatest comeback in NFL history in the 1992 playoffs. 

The winner advances to the AFC Divisional round and plays the winner between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Colts’ keys: Their offense will likely be playing against Buffalo’s high-powered offense as much as against the Bills’ defense. Indianapolis has to keep up on the scoreboard. Don’t put the entire game on QB Philip Rivers’ arm; keep the Bills’ defense honest by giving it a heavy dose of RB Jonathan Taylor as well. The Colts’ defense has to get big games out of its cornerbacks. A steady pass rush would help too. 

Bills’ keys: Buffalo will be smart to keep things business as usual. The Bills have won nine of their last 10 games by throwing at will. WR Stefon Diggs and QB Josh Allen will be a tough matchup. On the defensive side, the Bills need to stop the run. LBs Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano became healthier as the season rolled on, playing a major role in the Bills’ improvements.

Matchup to watch: Colts CB Rock Ya-Sin vs. Bills WR John Brown. After a few weeks on the sideline because of injury and COVID-19, Brown was back in a big way in Week 17, scoring a touchdown. Ya-Sin, who’s had his fair share of penalty troubles, will have his hands full considering everyone else on the Colts’ defense will be watching Diggs.
